KETOROLAC TROMETHAMINE INJECTION. Ketorolac tromethamine injection may be used as a single or multiple doses on a regular or “prn” schedule for the management of moderately severe, acute pain that requires analgesia at the opioid level, usually in a postoperative setting.

Ketorolac, sold under Toradol and Biorolac among others, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain. Specifically, it is recommended for moderate to severe pain. Recommended duration of treatment is less than six days. It is used by mouth, by the nose, by injection into a vein or muscle, and as eye drops. Effects begin within an hour and last for up to eight hours.

What are the guidelines for ketorolac tromethamine (Ket) injections?

Dosage should be adjusted for patients 65 years or older, for patients under 50 kg (110 lbs.) of body weight (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION) and for patients with moderately elevated serum creatinine (see WARNINGS). Doses of ketorolac tromethamine injections are not to exceed 60 mg (total amount per day) in these patients.

Patients should be switched to alternative analgesics as soon as possible, but ketorolac tromethamine therapy should not exceed 5 days. When administering ketorolac tromethamine injection, the intravenous bolus must be given over no less than 15 seconds. The intramuscular administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle.
